An Overview Of The Green Car Revolution
For the past years, the global community has been troubled with the threat of the greenhouse effect. While this phenomenon is of no threat to the planet, increased production of greenhouse gases has led to what is now called global warming. The abundance of greenhouse gas produced by the different industries has also increased the warming effect of the greenhouse phenomenon.
One of the most blamed sectors is the auto industry because of the sheer number of vehicles on our roads today. The increasing awareness about the threat of global warming has led car manufacturers to develop and produce environment friendly cars known simply as green cars. While these cars are designed to burn less fossil fuels, one should not only look at its environment friendliness in this way. One should also consider the entire lifetime of these vehicles to find out which vehicles are really "green".
New Hybrid Versions of GM Sierra and Silverado coming very soon
To provide solution to the ever increasing gasoline prices General Motors has presented the hybrid versions of the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado pickups.
The Silverado Hybrid is sold with a price of $30,040 inclusive of shipping fee and about $3,000 higher than a V-8 powered Silverado with the same size engine and same trim. The Silverado Hybrid and the more upscale Sierra Hybrid were launched in late 2004. They were also the very first GM's gasoline-electric hybrids. Unfortunately, neither truck received much promotion resulting to their slow sales.
According to GM the total production run of both trucks was about 3,000. Chevrolet spokesman Brian Gobel said that there are also few unsold models of both trucks in dealer inventory. The production of the two trucks ended in December.
Honda Civic IMA: Hybrid doesn’t have to be boring
The call for eco-friendly vehicles has made automakers from the US and Japan to compete for the cash, hearts, and mind of the growing green car buyers. And presently it seems like the Japanese brands Toyota and Honda are leading the green vehicle department.
Honda maker of Honda exhaust system and Toyota have provided green car buyers with solutions in the shaped of modern design hybrid cars which were very much welcomed in both US and Japan reflected by the huge sales that these two hybrid brands have obtained. The success of hybrid vehicles has also reached other countries as a matter of fact the Irish government has responded positively to the arrival of hybrids in their market. It has given 50 percent Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) rebate on hybrids. This is the government's way of encouraging the Irish people to purchase hybrid vehicles.
Greenest Automaker Title Goes To Honda
The 2007 Greenest Automaker title has been given by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) to the Honda Motor Company and such a title has been bestowed to the car maker for the fourth time.
The latter is currently considered to the car company in the US which is fuel efficient. And the title is actually given out by the UCS every two years and the UCS decides which company rightfully deserves to take home the title after considering which car makers has vehicles in their US fleet which has the least number of overall production of emissions that forms smogs as well as emissions that affect global warming.
Features of Hybrid SUV Models
The hybrid sports utility vehicles (SUVs) are high performance vehicles that are compatible to using two distinct sources of power- the gasoline engine and the electric motor. This provides a fuel efficient source of power.
The 'milder' hybrids are dependent primarily on the gas engine. They use a small electric motor/ generator to supplement this. There are also 'strong' hybrids in which the electric motor is given a larger role enabling it to propel the car on its own at low speeds.

A few years ago, General Motors started making the electric vehicle. It was called the (EV1). The reader knows well what I am talking about. They did not sale the cars in the beginning. They wanted to test it first by leasing it out. The car was a beauty. Then all of sudden without giving any explanation to the public, General Motors terminated the leases and went ahead and destroyed the EVE1s. I never knew why they did such a thing, but they did it. The reason could have been "jobs", or the oil companies had something to do in stopping the EV1 distribution. The fact is that I still am a gasoline junkie until now.
